The as5048a is a 14-bit rotating position sensor for absolute Angle measurement and PWM (= pulse width modulation) at 360° based on contactless magnetic sensor technology for full rotation output. The device is suitable for shaft applications where a simple diode magnet turns the sensor IC above or below and the zero can be programmed into the device with simple SPI commands. The absolute magnetic Angle position resolution is 14 bits = 16384 for position measurements, each converted to a digital value of the serial interface (SPI).
The AS5048 provides PWM output and SPI or I2C interfaces to provide absolute Angle measurements for microcontrollers. Instead of thinking about the exact pairing of the chip's initial zero and the magnetic poles it USES, mechanical design allows the zero to be programmed into AS5048's internal memory at assembly time with a simple SPI or I2C command (no special programming device required).
The AS5048 also has very high operating tolerances, including center position deviations between the chip and the paired magnet, air gap deviations between the chip and the paired magnet, and temperature variations between -40 ° c and +150 ° c.
The AS5048 magnetic rotary encoder provides more accurate measurements than the previous magnetic rotary encoder products of Austrian microelectronics. Its 14-bit measurement simulation front end provides measurement resolution as low as 0.0219 degrees. Through the linearization and averaging of the microcontroller, the Angle measurement can be accurate to 0.05 degrees.
